FortiGate 80E end of life: end of support dates

By Nico De Muynck · Updated August 5, 2026

This firewall is past its End of Support date.

The Fortinet FortiGate 80E reached its End of Support on August 17, 2026. That is the hard stop: after it there are no firmware updates, no FortiGuard signatures, no hardware replacement and no technical support. The last FortiOS release this unit can run is 7.4.0, so it is already frozen behind the current branch.

FortiGate 80E lifecycle milestones

These dates are from Fortinet's Product Life Cycle listing for the FG-80E hardware.

Milestone Date
End of Order (last order date)2021-08-17
Last Service Extension Date2025-08-17
End of Support2026-08-17
Last supported FortiOS version7.4.0

What these dates mean

End of Order is the last day the FortiGate 80E could be purchased new from Fortinet. Last Service Extension Date is the last day you could buy or extend a FortiCare support contract for it. End of Support is the one that matters most: after it the device stops receiving firmware updates and FortiGuard security signatures, so every new vulnerability stays unpatched and the firewall becomes a standing security and compliance risk. A firewall running without current FortiGuard updates is especially exposed, because it sits at the network edge. For how Fortinet's lifecycle works in full, see the Fortinet EOL guide.

What replaces the FortiGate 80E?

Fortinet positions the FortiGate 80F as the direct successor, with the FortiGate 90G covering the same branch-office role in the current generation. Two things make this swap more urgent than the calendar suggests. The Last Service Extension Date passed on 17 August 2025, so FortiCare can no longer be bought or renewed for this unit at any price. And the box is capped at FortiOS 7.4.0, meaning it cannot take the newer branch even today. If a 80E is still doing edge duty, it is running out of both support and software headroom at once. New to the terminology? See EOL vs EOS vs EOSL.

Note that the FortiGate 80E-POE is a separate SKU with a later date: its End of Support is 15 July 2027, eleven months after the plain 80E. If your asset list just says “80E”, check the label before you assume which deadline applies.
