HPE end-of-life dates: how the ProLiant lifecycle works

By Nico De Muynck · Updated July 18, 2026

Quick answer

HPE works in generations: when a generation stops selling, the clock starts, and End of Support Life comes a minimum of 5 years after end of sale. Reference point: ProLiant Gen10 reached end of sale in October 2024 → supported until October 2029. Exact dates per SKU live in HPE's End of Sale / EOSL bulletins on the HPE Support Center.

The three milestones that matter

MilestoneMeaning
End of SaleThe generation can no longer be bought new — the EOSL countdown starts here
End of software supportFirmware and security updates stop — often earlier than hardware support
EOSLEnd of Support Life — no HPE hardware support, RMA or fixes of any kind

The generation model makes HPE fleets easy to reason about: know your generation, and you roughly know your deadline. (Terminology refresher: EOL vs EOS vs EOSL.)

Where to check your model

1. HPE Support Center — look up the product or serial at support.hpe.com for warranty status and lifecycle documents per SKU.

2. End of Sale / EOSL bulletins — HPE publishes official bulletins listing end-of-sale and end-of-support-life dates per generation and product family.

3. Know your generation — for ProLiant, the generation (Gen9, Gen10, Gen11…) is in the model name. Once a newer generation ships and yours leaves the price list, expect the ~5-year EOSL clock to be running.

The firmware gotcha

HPE hardware support and software support don't always end together — firmware and security updates for a generation can stop before hardware EOSL, and some updates require an active support agreement to download. A server that's “still supported” on paper may already be missing firmware patches in practice. Track both dates, and treat the software date as the security-relevant one. (Why that matters: the five real EOL risks.)
