RUCKUS ICX6450 end of life: end of support dates
By Nico De Muynck · Updated August 24, 2026
This switch is past its End of Support date.
The RUCKUS ICX6450 reached its End of Support on November 2, 2023. That date has passed, so there are no further firmware or security updates, no vendor support and no hardware replacement for this unit.

What the date means
RUCKUS runs a two-stage lifecycle. End of Sale starts the clock, and End of Support follows a fixed interval later, five years for most infrastructure. What makes RUCKUS unusual, and useful, is that the End of Life notices name the successor product explicitly, so the migration path is stated by the vendor rather than inferred from a datasheet comparison.
A switch past End of Support is a slower burn than a firewall but it is not benign. It carries your management VLAN and often your out-of-band access, so a switch compromise is a lateral-movement problem rather than a perimeter one. The practical risk is usually availability: no advance hardware replacement means a failed unit is sourced from the second-hand market, at whatever speed that market allows.
For the full vendor policy see the RUCKUS EOL guide, and if the terminology is the confusing part, EOL vs EOS vs EOSL separates the three milestones that get used interchangeably.
What replaces the ICX6450?
RUCKUS has not published a named one-to-one successor for the ICX6450, which happens even at RUCKUS, where most End of Life notices do name one. The practical approach is to pick the current model in the same product line at similar capacity, then check its End of Support date before ordering rather than after.
The table below is that shortlist: the ICX switches still in support, soonest deadline first, so you can see how much runway each option actually buys you.

Sorted by how much supported life is left, shortest first. Anything already past its date is left out, because it is not a replacement for anything.

Common questions
- When does the RUCKUS ICX6450 reach end of support?
- The RUCKUS ICX6450 reached End of Support on November 2, 2023. It no longer receives firmware or security updates and is not eligible for support or hardware replacement.
- Does a switch stop working at end of support?
- No. The switch keeps passing traffic. What stops is firmware fixes, vendor support and hardware replacement under contract, so any vulnerability disclosed after that date is never patched on that unit.
