RUCKUS ICX 7450 end of life: one variant is six years out of step

The ICX7450-32ZP is the single widest variant gap in our whole dataset.
The ICX 7450 line runs to 14 November 2029. The ICX7450-32ZP went out of support on 26 August 2023. That is a gap of more than six years inside what every inventory, every quote and every rack label will describe as the same switch series.

What the 32ZP actually is
The ICX 7450 family is normally a 24 or 48 port gigabit access switch with modular uplinks. The ICX7450-32ZP is different hardware wearing the same series name: a 32 port switch built around multigigabit ports with 90W PoE, sold for high density wireless and for the 802.11ac wave 2 access points of its era.
It was a niche product tied closely to a wireless generation that has since passed, and RUCKUS retired it on its own schedule rather than with the rest of the 7450 line. That is a defensible engineering decision and a genuinely dangerous one for asset registers, because nothing about the part number signals that it is a different lifecycle.
Why this matters more than the six years suggests
ICX switches stack. A 32ZP sitting in a stack with three supported 7450 units does not degrade quietly on its own: it is a member of a stack running a shared firmware image, and it is the member that will not receive a fix. When you open a support case for the stack, the unsupported member is what the conversation will be about.
The same logic applies to spares. A 32ZP held as a cold spare for a 7450 stack is not a spare, because it cannot be RMA’d and it is not on the same lifecycle as the units it is meant to back up. This is worth checking physically rather than from the register, since spares are the part of an estate least likely to be recorded accurately.

The ICX 7450 reaches End of Support on November 14, 2029. The one exception is the ICX7450-32ZP, which reached End of Support on August 26, 2023.
Why is the ICX7450-32ZP dated so much earlier than the rest of the 7450 line?
It is different hardware sharing the series name. The 32ZP is a 32 port multigigabit switch with 90W PoE, built for the high density wireless deployments of the 802.11ac wave 2 generation, and RUCKUS retired it on its own schedule when that generation passed.
How do I tell whether a switch in my stack is a 32ZP?
Run show version on FastIron. It prints the exact model string for every member of the stack, so an ICX7450-32ZP will name itself. Checking the stack rather than the asset register matters here, because this is exactly the variant a register tends to record as a plain 7450.
Can an unsupported switch stay in a supported ICX stack?
Physically yes, and it will keep forwarding traffic. What you lose is the ability to get a fix or an RMA for that member, and since the stack runs a shared firmware image, the unsupported member is the one that will block a support case for the whole stack.
