The one trap in this family: a suffix that extends rather than shortens

Suffix variants usually run longer than the base unit, and people learn to expect that. The 200B generation contains a counterexample worth knowing about. The FortiGate-200B-LENC ended support on 9 July 2019, while the FortiGate-200B-LENC-G ran to 18 July 2022, three years later, on what an inventory would record as the same part.

The G suffix marks a hardware revision rather than a channel. Fortinet frequently re-dates a revised board separately, which is why two units that look identical in a rack, and identical in most asset tools, can be three years apart on support. If your register truncates part numbers at the last hyphen, this is the class of error it will produce.

Reading the generations

The 200 and 200A are early 2000s hardware and have been out of support for a decade. The 200B ran from 2009 into the early 2020s depending on variant. The 200D generation ended between May and July 2023. The 200E and its USG and LENC variants all hold 13 October 2030, and the 200F runs to 1 March 2031, with the 200F-USG dated slightly earlier on 13 October 2030.

That last detail is a small reversal of the usual pattern: here the government SKU ends before the commercial one rather than after it. It is a reminder that the suffix rule is a tendency, not a law, and the table is the authority.

Replacing a 200D

If you are still running a 200D you are three years past support, so this is a remediation question rather than a planning one. The direct successors are the 200F and 201F. Both carry NP7 and SoC4 silicon, which changes the throughput calculation substantially once inspection is enabled, so size on inspected throughput rather than on the model number stepping up by one.
