We track 13 variants in this family. 7 are already past end of support and 1 ends within the next twelve months. The earliest and latest dates are 19.3 years apart, which is why a single family-wide date is worth nothing.

The 100 series is three separate firewalls

The 100D is the 2013 generation and has been out of support since 2023. The 100E replaced it in 2016 and is going out now. The 100F arrived in 2019 and runs to April 2031, which is close to five more years.

That last figure is the one worth carrying into a budget conversation. A 100F bought today still has most of its supported life ahead of it, so the refresh you are being asked to fund is not a recurring annual cost, it is a five year step. That argument tends to land better than a deadline.

Why the USG and LENC variants outlive the commercial unit

It looks arbitrary until you know what the suffixes mean. USG units are sold into United States Government procurement, LENC are low-encryption SKUs built for markets with import restrictions on strong cryptography. Both channels come with contractual support commitments that outlast the standard commercial lifecycle, so Fortinet dates them separately.

The consequence for an asset register is unhelpful but simple: FortiGate-100E and FortiGate-100E-USG are different products with different dates, and no amount of fuzzy matching on "100E" will tell them apart. You have to read the full part number.

If you are on a 100E right now

The base unit is at or past its date as you read this. In practical terms that means no firmware fixes, no new IPS or antivirus engine builds tied to supported releases, and no hardware replacement under contract. The FortiGuard subscriptions may keep renewing, which is precisely what makes this easy to miss: the box keeps working and the invoices keep arriving.

What the rest of the FortiGate 1U range has left

The obvious replacement for a 100E is a 100F, but it is not the only option, and the mid-range models below sit either side of it on both throughput and remaining support life.
